Upcoming Youth Ultimate Events

Every summer, Cedar Rapids Ultimate hosts an Ultimate Frisbee Youth Camp in partnership with the Cedar Rapids Parks & Recreation Department.

Camp is a great opportunity for kids to try out a new sport, learn new skills, and practice self officiation, which helps players develop important life skills such as self-confidence, personal integrity and conflict resolution.

When registration is open details for camp will be linked below.

If you are interested in learning more about opportunities for local youth to experience Ultimate Frisbee, please email us at cedarrapidsultimate@gmail.com.

Ultimate is a sport for people of all ages. Introducing Ultimate to young players is a main component of the mission of Cedar Rapids Ultimate as the sport continues to grow.

Teaching Integrity and Conflict Resolution to Young Players

Playing Ultimate has always been about more than just throwing a disc around. At the core of the game is a concept the Ultimate community calls the Spirit of the Game™ (SOTG). This is the guiding principle that teaches integrity and conflict resolution, as all games are self-officiated. SOTG puts sportsmanship and honesty above outcome, combining healthy competition with respect for your opponent.

From the Official Rules of Ultimate: 11th Edition:

Section 1. Introduction, item B. “Spirit of the Game. Ultimate relies upon a spirit of sportsmanship that places the responsibility for fair play on the player. Highly competitive play is encouraged, but never at the expense of mutual respect among competitors, adherence to the agreed upon rules, or the basic joy of play. Protection of these vital elements serves to eliminate unsportsmanlike conduct from the Ultimate field. Such actions as taunting opposing players, dangerous aggression, belligerent intimidation, intentional infractions, or other ‘win-at-all-costs’ behavior are contrary to the Spirit of the Game and must be avoided by all players.”
