Update 6/7/2021
As of 6/7/2021 CRU is updating the Return to Play Safety measures in accordance with CDC guidelines. Fully vaccinated players are no longer required to wear masks during play or on the sidelines. Per CDC guidance, we recommend that non-vaccinated players continue to wear masks.
We will still be providing masks as needed, sanitized discs, hand sanitization, and track attendance and positive cases as we had previously communicated.
Finally, the time has come to return to organized Ultimate games in Cedar Rapids. The health and wellbeing of our community is our highest priority. Despite our eagerness to play with you all again this desire cannot override our dedication to being good stewards of our community.
After reviewing case numbers, vaccination trends and guidance from government health organizations, we trust that with some extra precautions, and the cooperation of the community, we can now return to play safely. Beginning on Tuesday, April 6 CRU’s regular pick up games will continue at their regular times and locations.
Below, you will find a detailed explanation of the measures we will be requiring at all CRU events to ensure a safe playing environment. You can also find additional information from trusted sources on how to keep yourself, and others, safe.
Return to Play Safety Measures
-
- Masks: Players will be required to wear masks during play or if you cannot stay at least six feet apart from people who do not live with you.
- If you do not have a mask one will be provided for you.
- Sanitized Discs: CRU will ensure there are multiple sanitized discs available at pick up. Used discs will be separated and cleaned as needed during play. They will also be sanitized at the beginning and end of pick up. While we understand that the risk of transmission is low from a disc, this is an easy and simple way we can add another layer of protection for those playing.
- Hand Sanitation: Gel or foam hand sanitizer that contains at least 60% alcohol will be provided by CRU. Cover all surfaces of your hands and rub them together until they feel dry.
- Tracking positive cases: If you have tested positive for COVID or have come into close contact with someone with COVID-19 in the last 14 days AND participated in a CRU event in the last 14 days, please contact Cedar Rapids Ultimate immediately (cedarrapidsultimate@gmail.com). We will not share your information but will communicate that there has been a possible exposure to other participants.
- Masks: Players will be required to wear masks during play or if you cannot stay at least six feet apart from people who do not live with you.
Please note: CRU’s return to play guidelines are subject to change as guidelines are updated by the CDC, USAU, state and local governments. If you have questions regarding the CRU Return to Play Guidelines please reach out to the CRU Board.
Regarding Vaccinated individuals: We know that many CRU players are partially or fully vaccinated. While this is great news, the CDC still recommends that you follow these precautions in public spaces. You can find more information on the CDC’s guidelines for those who are fully vaccinated here: https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/vaccines/fully-vaccinated.html

Stay home when needed
- If you have or think you have symptoms or have tested positive for COVID-19, stay home and find out what to do if you are sick and find out when you can be around others.
- If you are well, but you have a sick family member or recently had close contact with someone with COVID-19 and follow CDC recommended precautions.
Monitor your health
- Be alert for symptoms. Watch for fever, cough, shortness of breath, or other symptoms of COVID-19.
- This is especially important if you are running essential errands, going into the office or workplace, and in settings where it may be difficult to keep a physical distance of 6 feet.
- Take your temperature if symptoms develop.
- Don’t take your temperature within 30 minutes of exercising or after taking medications that could lower your temperature, like acetaminophen.
- Follow CDC guidance if symptoms develop.
- Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds especially after you have been in a public place, or after blowing your nose, coughing, or sneezing.
- It’s especially important to wash:
- Before eating or preparing food
- Before touching your face
- After using the restroom
- After leaving a public place
- After blowing your nose, coughing, or sneezing
- After handling your mask
- After changing a diaper
- After caring for someone sick
- After touching animals or pets
- If soap and water are not readily available, use a hand sanitizer that contains at least 60% alcohol. Cover all surfaces of your hands and rub them together until they feel dry.
- Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth with unwashed hands.
